Hamburg Science Summit 2026

On 17 September 2026, the Hamburg Science Summit 2026 will take place in Hamburg under the theme Europe in a Multipolar World. The event will focus on Europe’s position in an increasingly multipolar world and on the role of research and innovation in strengthening its competitiveness, resilience and strategic autonomy. Discussions will address how to balance scientific openness with technological sovereignty, the role of science diplomacy, cooperation with partners beyond the United States and China, and the links between science, civil innovation and defence while preserving academic freedom and international collaboration. The Summit will bring together representatives of academia, European institutions, business and think tanks, and will also feature high-level roundtables hosted by organisations including the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC), the Scientific Advice Mechanism (SAM) and the European Innovation Council (EIC).
