The winners of ERC Starting grants to receive 636 millions euro

The grants should help to create almost 2000 work positions. Three of them were also received in Czechia.

A total of 408 researchers, working in 26 European countries, succeeded in the ERC Starting Grants call with the deadline on 13 January 2022. The ERC starting grants will help create up to 2000 new positions in teams of postdoctoral researchers with two to seven years of experience and provide enough funds to implement proposed projects.

The grants will support scientific projects in various areas of soft and hard sciences. Three grants also go to the Czech Republic. Specifically to Charles University in Prague, Masaryk University and the Institute of Ethnology of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. The call attracted nearly 3,000 project proposals, which were assessed by panels of renowned researchers from around the world. The laureates proposed to implement their projects at universities and research centers in 26 European countries, primarily in Germany (81 projects), Great Britain (70), the Netherlands (40) and France (39). Among the winners of the challenge are nationals of 46 countries, notably Germans (70 researchers), Italians (41), Israelis (30) and the Netherlands (28).
