Institutions teaching journalism can receive funding for preparation of a course on the EU

CZELO

The Commission will support development of a curriculum and teaching materials for a course on the EU and on EU Cohesion.

The aim of the Preparation and implementation of a course on the EU and on EU Cohesion policy for higher education institutions teaching journalism Call is to raise the level of knowledge of journalism students regarding both the European Union and EU investment in regions and cities.

The European Commission will support a network of higher education institutions teaching journalism (at least 2 universities from 2 different Member States), that will develop and implement a course focusing on functioning of the EU, its investment in regions and cities (notably through the Cohesion policy) and on covering and reporting on EU initiatives and projects with a focus of regional and local level.

The deployment of a course on EU and Cohesion policy should lead to an increase in the number of journalists specializing in EU issues and to a wider coverage of European policies and initiatives. This course should also focus on the Cohesion policy investments, which are the most tangible proof of the EU's impact on the daily life of the EU citizens (investments to support job creation, business competitiveness, economic growth, sustainable development etc.).

This is also an opportunity to deepen the academic debate regarding the EU and, specifically, Cohesion policy, as well as to foster innovations in teaching about the EU through cooperation between educational institutions.

Proposals can be submitted by universities and other educational institutions teaching journalism at the bachelor's and postgraduate levels. The application deadline is April 21, 2022 at 1:00 PM, the results should be known by June. The total budget earmarked for the co-financing of the project under this call is estimated at EUR 1 000 000 (95 % to be covered) and the Commission expects to fund one proposal. More information can be found on the European Commission's website, where calls for proposals in the Cohesion policy area are published or in the text of the call.
