On 18 May 2021 the EIC Advisory Board and the ERC Scientific Council released a joint statement on reinforcing their cooperation. In the statement, they confirmed their commitment to support the best European talents, because as they said “there is no future for Europe without research and innovation”. Both institutions are aware about the importance of the research and innovation and about their positive impact on society, economies and everyday life, that is why they consider public investment in these sectors necessary.

ERC has been founded already in 2007 to fund the highest quality curiosity-driven research and EIC in 2021 to support ground-breaking innovations. Both institutions are part of the framework programme Horizon Europe. An example of their interconnection is a financial tool EIC Transition designed to help to transform the results from ERC Proof of Concept and EIC Pathfinder into more concrete market opportunities. Regarding a cooperation in 2021, in the joint statement the EIC and ERC informed about their plan to co-organise joint thematic workshops on cell and gene therapy as well as on energy storage. The aim of those workshop is to bring both fields together, to exchange ideas, build networks etc.
