European Commission will under the European Green Deal finance 72 research projects

On 3 June 2021 the European Commission informed about the results of the European Green Deal Call. The €1 billion call, funded under the EU’s Horizon 2020 programme, was launched on 17 September 2020 with a deadline for submissions on 26 January 2021. Applicants submitted about 1550 eligible proposals which were evaluated by 800 external experts. They chose 72 successful project proposals. Grants are expected to be signed by September 2021.

The 72 proposals selected involve almost 1800 participants from the research community, the public and private sectors, and civil society organisations. The aim of the projects is to address the climate crisis, help to protect the biodiversity and ecosystems in Europe. Chosen project should focus on following topics of the Green Deal: for example, Clean, affordable and secure energy; Sustainable and smart mobility; Biodiversity and ecosystems; Zero-pollution, toxic-free environments; Sustainable agriculture; Energy and resource efficient buildings etc. Some project will also address horizontal, complementary areas such as strengthening knowledge and empowering citizens.
