European Commission proposed a new approach to the blue economy

On 17 May 2021, European Commission (EC) proposed to apply a new approach to the blue economy, since the EC is aware of the necessity to reduce enviromental and climate impact of this field and to transform it into a sustainable blue economy. Otherwise the objectives of the Green Deal and of green and inclusive recovery from the pandemic would not be achieved.

The objectives of European Commission are among others climate neutrality and zero pollution in maritime transport and its ports, development of innovative fishing gear, preserving the biodiversity, sustainable food production, more sustainable use of the marine environment and better cooperation between all actors involved in the fisheries, aquaculture, shipping, tourism and much more. The transition the sustainable blue economy will create new green jobs and businesses in this field.
