Compared to 2021, the innovation performance has improved in 19 Member States, most strongly in Czechia, Ireland and Finland.

The European Innovation Scoreboard shows that the EU´s innovation performance has increased by around 10% since 2015. Compared to 2021, the innovation performance has improved in 19 Member States, most strongly in the Czech Republic, Ireland, and Finland. On the contrary, the innovation performance has declined in eight Member States.

Based on the results, the Member States are divided into 4 performance groups: Innovation leaders, Strong innovators, Moderate innovators, and Emerging innovators. Sweden continues to have the best results in the European Union. Belgium, Denmark, Finland, and Netherlands are also part of the group of Innovation leaders.

The Czech Republic is a Moderate innovator with an innovation performance of 92.6% compared to the average of the European Union. Within the group of Moderate innovators, the Czech Republic´s performance is above the group average and like Estonia, Greece and Lithuania, its innovation performance is growing faster than in the EU in general.

There are still significant differences in innovation capacities within the groups and across the EU. The performance groups tend to be concentrated in certain regions: Innovation leaders and Strong innovators are in Northern and Western Europe, while Moderate innovators and Emerging innovators are located in Southern and Eastern Europe.
