EU research ministers adopted new Council conclusions

The Council conclusions focus on international cooperation, open science and the implementation of European missions.

Meeting of Competitiveness Council was held on 10 June, at which EU ministers responsible for research, adopted three sets of the Council conclusions, focusing on areas such as political guidelines on international cooperation in research and innovation, support for open science policies and implementation of European missions.

Regarding the international cooperation, European ministers agreed to launch a multilateral dialogue with EU's main partners, with the aim of ensuring balanced and mutually beneficial international cooperation. A statement on the consequences of Russian military aggression in Ukraine in the field of research and innovation was also added to the Council conclusions.

In the context of open science and following up on the COVID-19 crisis, the Council adopted its conclusions in three areas: 1. reform of research assessment systems, 2. developing capacities for academic publishing and scientific communication, 3. promoting multilingualism aimed at raising the profile of EU research results.

In the framework of the European mission, the Council conclusions will provide guidance on their governance mechanisms, on investments from EU programmes and policies and their relationship to national and local policies, programmes and initiatives, as well as frameworks for monitoring, review and evaluation and citizen engagement.
