The CZELO office expresses its solidarity with Ukrainian students, youth, the Ukrainian academic and scientific community and all those affected by the war. For this reason, the CZELO office, as part of the Czech National Agency for International Education and Research, has joined two statements, in which we call on the European Union to provide immediate support to the Ukrainian academic and research community.
In a statement endorsed by the Academic Cooperation Association (ACA), of which the Czech National Agency for International Education and Research is a member, "we call upon European governments to establish flexible visa and residence provisions for Ukrainian students and scholars, to facilitate their speedy evacuation when in need. Furthermore, the members of the association call upon the European Commission to introduce exceptional scholarship / grant support (eg under the Erasmus + program).
In joint statement of the Brussels-based Research and Innovation Liaison Offices, we further "call upon the European Commission to continue to act swiftly in order to prevent further damage to Ukraine's academic and research sector". Furthermore, we would welcome fast-track funding measures for Ukrainian academics, such as those implemented in 2020 as a direct response to the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, we commit to engage with a view to supporting and disseminating the #ScienceForUkraine campaign as a prime example of pan-European, bottom-up and fully organic project with significant value added.
