Expected Innovation Fund Call to release €3 billion

The call will focus on decarbonisation, hydrogen technologies, mid-sized pilots and clean-tech manufacturing.

During Hydrogen Week, Commissioner Frans Timmermans announced an upcoming call with a planned investment of €3 billion to help end dependence on Russian fossil fuels and contribute to the REPowerEU goals. The call opens today (November 3) with a focus on four topics that are connected through "clean technologies".

  • General decarbonisation (€1 billion): innovative projects in renewable energy, energy-intensive sectors and CCUS (carbon capture and storage).
  • Innovative electrification in industry | Hydrogen (€1 billion): innovative projects to help replace the use of fossil fuels in industry. Furthermore, the production of hydrogen from renewable sources or its use in industry.
  • Clean tech manufacturing (€0.7 billion): innovative projects in the production of components and equipment for electrolysers and fuel cells.
  • Mid-sized pilots (€0.3 billion): highly innovative projects in the field of breakthrough technologies aimed at decarbonisation.

Info days on all four topics will take place on November 29 and 30, which will also take into account the results of the previous Innovation Fund call.

Projects can be submitted on the website of the European Commission until March 16, 2023.
