On 29 June 2021 the European´s Commission´s Group of Chief Scientific Advisors delivered a Scientific Opinion on a clean energy transition, in which they give recommendations how the European Commission could facilitate and accelerate the transition to clean energy. The first of the recommendations is to develop a combination of policies and measures that clearly supports the objectives of climate neutrality and sustainability, such as carbon pricing, and that is inclusive and maximise synergies. The second recommendation is to create a flexible, efficient and resilient energy system based on the use of renewable energy sources, electrification, hydrogen, investing in infrastructure, improving the energy efficiency of buildings and, also supporting science, research and innovation. The third recommendation is to recognise the role of stakeholders and all actors in creating an inclusive and participatory environment that supports the use of low-carbon energy choices. The group also draws attention to the need to use innovative technologies, but also a people-centric approach that actively involves all participants in the energy environment. On the other hand, they recommend to replace the coal-based energy production with renewable energy sources and to switch from fossil fuel to electrocity.
