EC and the UK found common ground on Horizon Europe assocation

After long negotiations, British researchers can once again participate in HE research projects.

From 1 January 2024, UK scientists and research organizations will be able to participate in Horizon Europe and Copernicus. The long-awaited UK Research Association is underpinned by the Trade and Cooperation Agreement. For the United Kingdom, there is an obligation to contribute financially to the European budget. Great Britain will contribute almost 2.6 billion euros per year on average to participate in both programs. The agreement also provides for cases of insufficient or excessive involvement of British institutions and contains balancing mechanisms that would adjust the amount of the British contribution in this case.

The agreement must now be approved by the member states and the EU-UK Specialized Committee for participation in Union programmes.
