AKTION Czech Republic-Austria, cooperation in science and education, is a programme supporting bilateral cooperation in the tertiary sector through grants and collaborative projects.

Scholarships

for the academic year 2019/2020

AKTION is a scholarship program for students and academic researchers providing study and research internships at Austrian state universities and technical colleges - Fachhochschulen.

AKTION scholarships  are available to all citizens of the European Union, the European Economic Area and Switzerland who are either enrolled in a master or a doctoral program or employed at eligible institutions in the Czech Republic (public universities according to the Annex No. 1. of the Universities Act no. 111/1988 Coll.).

Semester scholarships and short-term research scholarships:

Target group:

 Students of master/doctoral programs and academic  
 researchers

Purpose:

 students - only for the preparation of a master thesis or  
 a Ph.D. dissertation,

 academic researchers:  for a short-term research scholarship

Age limit:

 age is not specified; scholarship is designed to help develop professional scientific careers (with a focus on young scientists and scholars)

Duration:

 1 – 5 months: semester scholarships
 1 – 3 months: short-term research scholarship

Deadlines for applications:

 15th March: only for the winter semester

 31th October: only for the summer semester

 

Scholarships for university teachers:

Target group:

 University teachers

Purpose:

 research scholarship

Age limit:

 age is not specified; scholarship is designed to help develop professional scientific careers (with a special focus on young scientists and scholars)

Duration:

1 month

Deadlines for applications:

15th April, 30th November

 

Habilitation scholarships for post-docs:

Target group:

Post-docs

Purpose:

Preparation of the habilitation thesis

Age limit:

max.10 years after the Ph.D. dissertation defense

Duration:

6 months

Information about tuition fees at Austrian universities

Tuition fees were introduced at Austrian universities in the winter semester 2001/2002. Tuition fees have been set at EUR 363.36 per semester. Detailed information about rules for the payment of tuition fees can be found on the website of the Austrian Agency for International Cooperation in Education and Research - OeAD-GmbH.

Exemption from tuition fees

Scholarship holders of the AKTION Czech Republic - Austria program and also of other programs that are financed from state funds are exempt from paying tuition fees.

All students in Austria are required to pay the so-called ÖH-Beitrag, i. e., the student organization membership fee - Österreichische HochschülerInnenschaft, which also includes the contribution to accident insurance. The total amount of the membership fee is EUR 17.50. More information can be found here or on the website of a host university.
